This year you no longer need to go to McDonald's to get super-sized. Oversized fashion accessories are the order of the day!
Last year, women's fashion saw wide cinch-waisted belts, oversized bangles — stacked-up high, and the figure enveloping, diaphanous handbag. This season things go one step further with giant bags morphing into clutch purses, and overly-large cocktail rings to show off elegant hands.These days, making a bold fashion statement is right at your finger tips or at the base of your index finger! Giant Cocktail RingsIf bling is your thing, then you’ll love the current trend in oversized, showy jewelry. Oversized cocktail rings are being snapped up by the Desperate Housewives generation, and taking their cue from celebrities such as Angelina Jolie, Christina Aguilera and Cate Blanchette, who was photographed at this week’s Indiana Jones movie premier in Cannes, wearing a purple rock! Look-at-me cocktail rings even have the royal seal of approval — Princess Beatrice (daughter of the Duke of York and Sarah Ferguson) was pictured leaving London’s Boujis nightclub sporting a huge purple, petal ring. According to the Daily Mail’s article, “Give Us a Cocktail Ring,” of 25th May, 2008 “Top fashion houses such as Louis Vuitton, Chanel and Christian Dior lead the way, with new designs costing up to £50,000.But High Street chains such as Top Shop are also capitalizing on the trend, with versions as affordable as £5.” Online retailer Asos has also jumped on the band wagon with a selection of fashionable oversized rings from £6.00. Popular designs feature eye-catching motifs such as enamel bullseyes, butterflies, flowers and petals, and huge gemstones. They come in all shapes and sizes, the showier the better! A word of warning though, make sure your nails are manicured if you are going to draw such attention to this area; chipped varnish and split nails just won't do! Oversized Clutch PursesLadies love the oversized handbag so much that the clutch purse has now been super-sized by designers. Part of the attraction of such big bags is that the wearer's frame pales into insignificance compared to the arm candy it sports. A good way of making yourself look smaller than you really are! Oversized clutches are so much more versatile than a smaller purse, given all the hi-tech paraphernalia women now carry in their bag (Ipod, Blackberry etc). No longer just room enough for car keys and a lipstick, your super-sized clutch can now carry everything you need for the daytime too. Choose from this year's black patent, bright-white, animal prints, crocodile skin and bold multi-colors. High-end fashion houses such as Fendi and Oscar De La Renta have been showcasing their wares for more than a season now. Fendi’s Love Letter Oversized Clutch has been fêted extensively by internet blogs such as Fashion Kitty, and has completely sold out at Net-A-Porter.com. However, the site currently features a classy Fendi Oversized Whipstitch Clutch (£1,040), which is classic Fendi at its best! If you are not yet a fan of the oversized clutch then another of this season's trends is “the convertible”. A clutch that thinks it’s a handbag and vice versa.
