Military Coats and Biker Jackets for Fall 2008Women's Fashion — Outerwear Trends for the Autumn Winter Season
When it comes to covering up from the cold this Fall Winter, then a Rock 'n Roll revival in biker jackets, and military-style coats are two of the hottest looks.
Cropped biker jackets have had a modern makeover for fall winter 2008. Wear a tough looking bomber jacket over volumnous skirts and floral prints for a up-to-the-minute look; or throw it over this season’s sculpted little black dress. Make your silhouette lean and mean, with pants that are slinky and skinny. Rock 'n Roll Biker ChicAccording to Net-A-Porter, everyone needs a biker jacket this fall, with the master being Rick Owens. Choose from his leather bomber jacket or shearling bomber jacket with zip-fastening cuffs, to be worn with knee-high boots and skinny-legged pants. Dolce and Gabbana’s traditional-look leather biker jacket is perfect for giving fall floral dresses some attitude and Superfine’s (Kate Moss’s favorite label for jeans) Ryder jacket with stand-up color, or Celine’s sleek cropped bomber jacket is the ultimate in rock chic. Celebrities such as Kate Moss, Paris Hilton and Victoria Beckham are loving their biker chic. Even in the searing heat of summer they have been seen stepping out in their biker black with designer printed tees, jackets and biker caps. Currently one of the biggest commercial sellers in biker chic is a Kate Moss-inspired biker jacket, from online retailer, Assos. At only £85 this is a way to beat the credit crunch and still be right-on-trend. This distressed leather biker jacket with ¾-length sleeves is part of the Assos premium range and selling out fast. Saks has a more elegant Just Cavalli double-belted motorcycle jacket with a slightly puffed sleeve - sleek styling at is best for $1,510. Nanette Leopore's brown round-necked Risque leather biker jacket, ($785) also gives a more elegant twist to the trend. That most classic of fashion staples, the versatile trench coat also gets toughened up for fall. Inspired by biker chic, Sonia Rykiel's wool trench coat (Net-A-Porter) has a modern-twist with biker-style zips and studs. Scary Fashion Accessories for FallFor die-hard fashionistas, wear your biker black with toughened up accessories, with metal studs, spikes and chains. This applies just as much as embellishments for heels and bags, as it does for spiky studded jewelry. The look may be a little scary, but it’s sexy too. Perhaps the best fashion accessory of all is this season's dramatic architectually shaped black dress. Military Coats & Jackets for Fall 2008The fashion runways are also throwing around their military might, with officer uniformed coats and Russian military inspired jackets. From brass buttons to braiding to shoulder epaulettes, the easiest way to make a style statement for winter is to invest in a military-esque coat. Stylish cape designs also make a comeback, to be worn with black opaques. If there is one winter piece to add to your wardrobe then make it military. The trend gets a makeover every season, but this year it makes a style statement of its own. Traditional fashion house, Jaeger London, is having a fashion moment in 2008, first with its lead in stars prints (a spring trend a la Kate Moss) and now with some dramatic double-breasted brass buttoned outerwear from caped sleeved jackets to maxi-length skirt suits. This label was one set squarely in the middle-income, middle-aged bracket, according to style.com, but is now updating its good-but-boring image, and its look. This season, Jaeger’s military-inspired jackets, stand-up collared coats and brass-buttoned suits, could hardly be describes as boring. Edgy and bold are two adjectives that come to mind. For a more sexy and soft military look the go for Temperley London’s Russian Doll, military inspired tunic coats, which are crying out to be worn with a pair of this season’s seductive thigh-high boots. For a more traditional look there’s Alexander McQueen’s, double-breasted officer style khaki coat, with brass-buttoned sleeves.
