Jeans and a shirt is a standard outfit, but various accessories can drastically alter the look.

Jeans and a t-shirt is the typical “throw on” outfit for a casual day or weekend. It pretty much fits in any season, which is probably why denim is promoted and sold year-round.

As much as women attempt to vary their wardrobe, there are certain days where only jeans and a tee will do. But the look doesn’t have to stop there -- accessorizing the jeans and shirt can vastly change the tone of an outfit.

Fall Day Look

  • Jacket: Pull on a leather or lightweight suede jacket
  • Shoes: Driving moccasins are good for walking; leather or suede boots are perfect for colder weather (but avoid suede in the rain); dark or thick fabric flats are cute as long as it’s not too chilly
  • Bag: A leather tote or satchel provides enough room for daily basics but isn’t overwhelming
  • Jewelry: A chunky necklace or multiple strands add sparkle or shine to a plain tee
  • Additional: Try a leather beret or suede cap, and/or a gauzy scarf

Winter Day Look

  • Jacket: A suede, faux fur or fabric coat with a fur color seems winter-like
  • Shoes: Boots provide warmth and a fashionable look
  • Bag: If there’s the possibility of rain, leather or a patent leather bag is ideal
  • Jewelry: Jazz up a cold or dark day with jewelry that sparkles
  • Additional: A heavy scarf and beanie cap

Spring Day Look

  • Jacket: Depending on the weather, a cotton or cashmere cardigan is a standard yet cute look. Popular for next spring -- the “boyfriend” cardigan (long body, long sleeves, soft fabric).
  • Shoes: Embrace spring with colorful flats or platforms
  • Bag: Light or bright colors can be brought out of winter retirement
  • Jewelry: Casual pearls or a charm bracelet are casual for spring
  • Additional: A lightweight or gauzy scarf

Summer Day Look

  • Jacket: If a jacket is even needed, try a very lightweight (almost see-through) cardigan or linen sweater
  • Shoes: Low-cut flats or jeweled flip flops are great choices for summer
  • Bag: In summer, women can get away with patterned or colorful totes, the “beach bag” look
  • Jewelry: Delicate jewelry is most appropriate for summer
  • Additional: Sunglasses, of course; a sun hat

Nighttime Look

  • Jacket: Choose a “night” fabric, such as something with sequins, sparkles or leather
  • Shoes: Heels work well -- the less space between the bottom of the jean and the top of the heel, the better
  • Bag: A sparkly clutch or purse is pretty for night
  • Jewelry: It’s easy to get away with a little more jewelry at night than during the day (multiple necklaces, dangle earrings)
  • Additional: Jeweled hairpins complete the outfit
