Red Hot Hosiery for 2008How to Find the Trendiest Tights for Summer and Fall
This season legs and ankles take on a leading role in the fickle world of fashion. From ankle-booties to hot hosiery, in colorful opaques, lace and funky prints.
Celebrities are going crazy for leg wear this season, from brightly-colored opaque tights, to patterned print leggings, to knee-high socks. These runway looks have been embraced by the high-street stores and online retailers, to such an extent that this year’s hot hosiery now makes its own fashion statement. Two Hoisery Looks for 2008
However, trend or no trend, remember that if you want to make your legs look leaner, then it’s best to match them with similar color shoes. This particularly applies when wearing ankles straps or shoe-boots (booties), as these have a tendency to make legs and ankles look thicker. Red-Hot HosieryIf you happen to have a pair of red tights lurking in the back of your closet, (probably from the days of your youth!), then it is time to retrieve them with much fanfare, as full-on red-blooded hosiery is the celebrity look. Gone are the classic black opaques, and in favor of fierce fire-hose red. Hailed as the “it” tights of the season, they were initially spotted on the Fall 2008 runways of Vera Wang and Alessandro Dell'Acqua. Photos of Fearne Cotton and the model of the moment, Agyness Deyn, (sporting a pair of red opaques), are all over fashion internet blogs, including Style.com, with its Style Hunter article, “Seeing Red.” Quite how well these red opaques will convert from the catwalk to the high-street, (for women 25 and over) remains to be seen. This is a tricky trend, as teaming them with any outfit means your tights will take center stage! This hot hosiery will lift somber grays and blacks, but be careful of mixing them with this season’s blues and greens, unless you want to resemble a parrot! Tightsplease have a selection of red-hot hosiery from Charnos and Jonathan Aston , in 40 and 60- denier. Wear them with a short solid color-block skirt for maximum effect. Edgy Patterned TightsPatterned tights have also made a comeback, with stars, spots, squares, diamonds and chevron stripes. With the current buzz surrounding the release of the Sex and the City movie, Carrie Bradshaw’s (Sara Jessica Parker) chevron tights lead the field in celebrity prints. Tightsplease has managed to source a pair from Cette at £9.99 (approximately $20.00) and Hosiery for You currently sells chevron-patterned Me Moi’s for $9.99. Sheer Tights for Feminine Elegance This FallWhilst much of this fall’s footwear is fashion hardware – chunky and clunky, there is also an element of femininity with soft satin shoes and bejeweled pumps. To show them off to their best advantage, you need the sheerest of sheer hosiery. You can also tick 2 trend boxes in one night, by following the red-blooded trend by teaming a pair of sheer 15-denier tights from Jonathan Aston with a sexy evening outfit. Eco Friendly TightsWith the current buzz for everything ethical and sustainable then hosiery has also had a makeover in regards to eco-fashion. Pretty much every major hosiery retailer these says offers a choice in eco-friendly legwear, including leading online stores like Figleaves.com (their Greenleaves section), which has Jonathan Aston organic plain or ribbed tights at £7.00 (approximately $14.00) Organic tights and socks can be found in sheer or rib, cotton, bamboo or wool. Aristoc do a range of sheer tights made from 85% organic cotton at £9.99 (approx $20.00) and Elle do a pair of bamboo fiber socks (as featured in Prima magazine, April 2008) at £6.00 (approx $13.00). Both are available from Tightsplease. Whatever your preference for hoisery this season, legs have never looked prettier!
