The easiest way to give a nod to Fall Winter trends is to invest in the shoe (or boot) of the moment, some statement hosiery, gorgeous gloves or an up-to-the-minute headpiece, the distinctive snood.
Shoes and Boots for Fall Winter 2009
The thigh-high boots of the ‘80s make a welcome or unwelcome return, depending on your age and viewpoint! The golden rule is to avoid looking vampish by teaming them with chunky sweater dresses, oversized blazers and mannish shirts.
Patent court shoes also get a little lift, with the addition of some on-trend platforms. Chunky yet still feminine, the added bulk complements a winter weight outfit, and gives extra inches of lift without actually increasing heel height.
The Snood

Bigger, chunkier and longer, that’s this season’s scarf. The perfect partner to a thick sweater dress or knitted coat. Think bold texture and color. Wear it tightly wrapped around the neck or let it fall loose, über long.
Statement Tights
Providing a fashionable alternative to the ever-popular leggings, the hottest hosiery trend for winter is statement tights – everything from animal-print, bold colour, metallic to opaque tights masquerading as stockings, and sexy fishnets in all the colors of the rainbow.
From polka dots to classic houndstooth check, patterned tights are a must this season. mix and match contrasting patterns such as spots and stripes, two-tone tights to dramatically patterned fishnets. Celebrities such as Sarah Jessica Parker and Lilly Allen were the first to corner this trend, which is now taking over the high-street.
Keep warm with some glittery woolen tights or shine with some shimmering glamor for evening wear. With bright pinks, blues and reds this is one way to add an injection of energy to a monochrome winter’s outfit.
Elbow-length Gloves
The season’s retro 40s trend is epitomized in elegant elbow-length gloves. Long leather gloves in all the colors of the rainbow are designed to give an outfit a pop of color. Choose from fingerless or snakeskin or sloppy oversized woollen knits, falling loosely from the elbow.
