Skinny belts and silk scarves are two must-have fashion accessories for spring and summer. No longer just wardrobe staples, these two are predicted to be massive in 2008.
Retail and fashion forecaster Tobe, has just released a sneak preview of its January report for fashion trends of 2008. “The scarf will be massive in 2008”, says Tobe in “Hottest fashion trends 2008," on fashionising.com.
After being relegated to the back of our wardrobes for so long it is time to bring silk scarves and fifties-style micro belts into the forefront once more.
Versatile Silk Scarves
“A printed silk scarf is the summer’s most versatile add on,” says Charlotte Saunders in Marie Claire's article of January 2008,“What You’ll Be Wearing This Summer.” A silk scarf can make a drab outfit come alive and adds a touch of class.
Wear it as a thick band to tie back your hair or simply tie it around your neck. Use it to demurely cover up a plunging neckline or even as a sash belt.
Scarves and lightweight and delicate, plain and patterned. This year's trendy star prints are followed through into scarves and other accessories too.
Wear a scarf as a turban by wrapping it around your head, leaving enough to tie a knot. Or, place it on your head and tie a knot behind the ear, allowing the ends of the scarf to drape on the shoulder. Haya Designs suggest over fifteen different ways to wear it.
Narrow Belts
One of the worst of last season’s trends was the corset belt, according to the Daily Mail’s Liz Jones in “ Celebrity Fashion Victims” of 30th December 2007.This summer it's all about skinny belts, narrow and quirky, that are worn high on the waist.
From plain to embellished, patent leather to metallics, use them to drape over dresses or pair with a cardigan or sweater as well as a shirt. This season Burberry, Prorsum and Proenza Schouler embellish narrow belts with military style medallions.
“If you are going to invest in one piece, make it a belt, but make it the right one,” says Charlotte Saunders of Marie Claire. This year belts are everywhere.
With narrow belts being paired with so many dress styles, to draw attention to the waist, wider waist-clinching belts continue to take a hold (of your waistline) this season for a more obvious look.
