From ankle booties to lace-up boots, black lace bags and top-handled purses. This season is all about silk scarves and woollen snoods, and highly patterened hoisery.
The fall winnter's fashion sees boots getting longer in the form of lace-ups and knee-high cuffs, and bags and hoisery getting brighter in prints and berry colors. Ladylike silk scarves make a big comeback, along with a modernized version of the snood — the perfect antidote for a bad hair day.
Here are some of the hottest looks in fashion accessories for the season:
Footwear and Hosiery
Patterned or printed tights teamed with simple dress is the perfect look for the stylish woman who wants to appear fashion-forward. Pair a color-block sweater dress with some contrasting-colored hosiery (berry shades), or pattered tights. Be careful not to go overboard with jazzy patterns. If you are the wrong side of 25 these can cheapen an outfit or make you look like mutton-dressed-as-lamb. Leave the leopard prints, polka dots and stars for the twenty-somethings, and go for a classic paisley instead. According to online retailer Asos, in their online 11th September newsletter, "20 New Season Buys, “bright tights are the new must-have…. it’s all about color the pattern and the print.”
Knee-length boots are back in vogue in a big way. From soft and slouchy to turned-down cuff to knee-high lace-ups. Embellished ankle boots (like Gucci’s Babouska Booties) bedazzle your feet and teetering silettos have the thinnest heels, or slightly curved, Prada or Burberry Prosum style. These are some of the many footwear trends this fall.
Bags and Purses
No single It-bag dominates this fall, but be it patterned, pleated or patent top-handled bags are back in vogue. Carry one in crook of your arm for the A-list celebrity look.
Huge show-stopping chain link top-handles and shoulder bags, in plastic and metal are a strong seasonal look. Black lace is everywhere, for a romantic punk look. Find it in gothed-up, vintage-style purses,
Pleating detailing is back, but this time we see it on fashion accessories too. From pleated ankle boots (Chloe, Brian Atwood) to a pleated purse, as in Marc Jacobs Stam bag or Chloé Heloise satchel.
Headwear: Snoods and Scarves
Winter welcomes the snood, a hat scarf and hood rolled into one. The best of the bunch is Stella McCartney’s striped snood; whether this trend catches on in the high-street remains to be seen. This look originates from a net, covering the hair and holding it in at the back, and is popular at weddings and formal occasions. This is a great way to hide a bad hair day and be right-on-trend at the same time.
Fall is the season of printed silk scarves. Ladylike silk scarves at this season’s surprise hit with the younger set. “The antidote to all things bad girl,” says the fashion team at Asos. Wear it tied around your neck in so many ways, or headband style, leaving the ends falling loosely over your front shoulder.
Fall & Winter Colors
Purples and plums inject life and color into fashion accessories, from scarves to hosiery, bags, boots and shoes. Shiny purple patent is a strong seasonal look in ballet flats and boots. Christian Louboutin does a mean pair of purple patent knee-highs, whilst Prada has some Man-from-Atlantis-style ruffled sandals in deep plum. Red, blue and purple paisely printed tights and berry shades of hoisery - wear a pair if you dare!
Jewelry for Fall 2008
Jewelry is chunky, brazen and bold. Huge over-the-top statement necklaces and art deco cuffs. One cuff is never enough, wear them piled high. Large chandelier earrings also make a big come back, but if you are wearing these then let your earrings do the talking and leave the necklace at home.
