Fall 2008 Shoe TrendsThis Season's Hottest Fall Footwear – from Shoe Boots to Stilettos
From skyhigh stillettos to suede shoe boots, lacey cut-outs to peep-toe pumps. Try this fall's hottest over-the-knee boots or lace-ups, or funky flat-heeled biker boots.
Successful online retailer Asos refers to shoe boots as "this season’s It-shoe and purple is the only color to be seen in." Fall winter is also about skyscraper stiletto heels, cut-outs, lacey looks and tough embellishments. Key colors and fabrics for fall are patent, satin, slouchy suede and lace in tone-on-tone rich berry shades, from burgundy and red, to lavender and purple. Lace-up BootsYou’ll find these full-on lace ups in knee-highs and ankle boots, adding a touch of Victoriana. Alexander McQueen’s dramatic lace-up boots provide Gothic take on classic knee-highs (Net-a-Porter), or try Givenchy’s similarly-styled potently passionate boots, available from Saks. Wear them with this season’s trendy sweater dresses/coats and leggings. Shoe BootsAccording to online designer retailer Net a Porter,in their August 2008 newsletter “shoe boots are essential.” No winter wardrobe would be complete without this hybrid, a cross between a shoe and a boot, finishing just on or below the ankle, also referred to as “booties.” Shoe boots are sassy and versatile, wear them with short-skirts and textured tights, 7/8th ankle-cropped pants or leggings. Love them or loathe them, this increasingly popular shoe style is here to stay! From the sedate to wacky, peep-toe and patent, satin and suede; shoe boots reign supreme this fall. Find them in purples and rich berry colors, winter grays and monochromes. Sergio Rossi’s purple patent shoe boots, with oversized buckle, are a good example of mixing trends. One of the most popular versatile is a pair of Rupert Sanderson’s monochromed-Kit Kats. An example of this season’s trend in embellishments can be found in Miu Miu’s Lightening Bolt heels or more subtly, Jimmy Choo’s Tiered Leather shoe boots or Glint Suede boots, with a touch of sparkle. Taking advantage of the popular tiered look for fall, L.A.M.B’s funky Camden shoe bootie is flying off the shelves at Zappos ($434), with its tiers of luscious leather. Ankle BootsThis season’s ankle boots are sculpted, studded, with footwear designers showing off their creativity. These include Alexander McQueen’s button-cuffed ankle boot or sculpted three-tongued boot and Chloé’s Raised Leaf boots, decorated with fluttering fall leaves — all walks of art! Over-the-knee BootsSexy over-the-knee boots make a welcome return. The pick of this season’s crop come from Halston, Jimmy Choo, Sergio Rossi, Bettye Muller, Giuseppe Zanotti and Brian Atwood. LaceAn unusual fabric for the winter season perhaps, but Muicca Prada, D&G and Christian Louboutin are loving lace this fall. From peep toe pumps to ankle boots, you’ll find this once delicate fabric has been toughened up for the season to become a daytime staple, not just for evening wear. Flat-heelsWhether it be biker boots or riding boots, flat-heels are back in vogue. Take your pick from authentic biker boots or designer, traditional riding boots or those with a modern twist. For a mod look, Siger Morrison’s studded bikers are hard to beat (Zappos.com). Stiletto HeelsStilletto heels just keep getting higher and higher. This season sees pin-thin heels as frighteningly tall as 16cms (around 7-inches) from designers like Alexander McQueen, Christian Louboutin and Jimmy Choo. Fall fashionistas are walking tall in skyhigh patents in black, gray and two-tone berry colors. From cut-out platforms to strappy sandals – wear them if you dare, for a staggeringly sexy look.
