Christian Louboutin is currently the man-of- the-moment when it comes to his famous trademark red-soled shoes.

With a recent exhibition of his shoes, entitled “Soul Desire” recently closed at New York’s Museum at FIT and Net-A-Porter featuring a Louboutin Spectacular, 2008 is set to be a good year for French footwear designer Christian Louboutin.

In its May 1st 2008 newsletter to customers, Net-A-Porter.com, the upmarket online retailer famed for its designer brands, announced its "Louboutin Spectacular." Whether it’s a pair of glamorous wedges, go-anywhere ballet flats or hot high heels, this online site currently features the latest collection of Louboutin shoes. Saks has also been heavily promoting Louboutin footwear and runs a 3-minute video on its website entitled Louboutin Spring Collection.

Trademark Red Soles

Instantly recognized by their trademark red soles (no matter what color the shoe), Louboutin shoes have been adorning A-list celebrities and chic fashionistas everywhere, along with his range of covetable clutches and tote bags.

According to Net-A-Porter, “the designer's ethos is to make shoes that are like jewels, and each unique design demonstrates unparalleled quality and an innate sultriness.”

Christian Louboutin Fall Preview 2008

This month the man-of-the-moment is coming to LA. Having attended a similar soirée on May 1st 2008 at Barney’s New York, he now moves on to Barney’s Beverley Hills (Wednesday, May 7th 2008 from 2-6 p.m.) to allow his followers a peek at the Christian Louboutin new fall collection. Those lucky enough to receive an invitation to Barney’s “Meet Christian and Preview Fall 2008 Shoes”, will hopefully have a chance to have a few words with the man himself.

Louboutin Spring/Summer Shoe Collection

Louboutin’s spring/summer collection ranges from vertigo-inducing heels and elegant ballet flats to this year’s current passion for shoe-boots.

A shoe which reflects the punk era and evokes memeories of the seventies is his black (or white) 5-inch Rodita Zip Platforms, available at either Net-A-Porter (£450) or Bergdorf Goodman ($835). They are reminiscent of a shoe that Madonna or Kylie Minogue might wear and are inspired by the warrior women-gladiator trend that is hitting the runways this year.

If it’s something a little more feminine and summery you fancy, then try the 4-inch high Marilou Zeppa Wedges (Net-A-Porter £460 and Barney’s $840) for a cork wedge sandal that will take you from beach to bar (in pretty pink) or business to ballroom (in gold metallics).

The Shoe-Boots Trend

Shoe-boots are coming into their own in 2008. A cross between a shoe and a boot, with the shoe, this style looks set to be one of the hottest runway looks of the year.

According to the Guardian newspaper, “The shoe-boot is this season's "it" accessory.” This ultimate in fashion footwear has earned the moniker “shoot, " and to qualify, the end of the shoe must fall well below ankle-sock level.

Louboutin’s take on this summer's shoe-boot includes the Moro, a monochrome shoe that looks as if it might be more at home on a tap dancing stage or the set of the musical, Chicago. Shoewawa.com compares them to “looking suspiciously similar to a pair I once saw Michael Jackson wearing in a music video.” Made for the RM runway collection these shoe-boots are available exclusively at Net-A-Porter, a mere snip at £520.

Elegant Women Wear Louboutins

Says Louboutin of his own footwear, "My shoes are perfect for the very sexy woman who wants to be elegant." Elegant women who have proudly worn his red soles include Elizabeth Taylor, designer Diana von Furstenberg, Princess Caroline of Monaco, Jennifer Lopez and Kylie Minogue.
